2017 - the year my writings stalled.
It spells a busy year, and one of creative drought.
Yet, I've also traveled quite a fair bit, a luxury that work has afforded me compared to my days as a thrifty student weighing the perks of allocating money to fashion or entertainment. I always chose the latter.
Bangkok was my recent go-to place for abandonment and escape. It definitely wasn't a novel destination. But this time around, I wasn't on a 3d2n sales incentive trip that felt like a whirlwind, with conventions and dinners all lined up. This time around, I got to immerse myself in thinking nothing and just being in the moment. Living the moment. Feeling the moment.
Bangkok fed me. Little creative waves emerged. Thoughts of writing seeped in again. Thoughts of living beyond the realm of work and daily humdrums sprouted.
This holiday, I managed to survive my 5 days of leisure time without a trace of makeup. It was a calculated move to set aside my coat of facial painting for the sake of feeling truly stripped of professional facets.
Somehow, I felt more whole in the aftermath.
Doing nothing but purely basking in the blessings of being alive and breathing is a sin only holidays truly afford us (me).
Purposeful living in the 21st century is a far cry from the age of Philosophers, when abstract thought was prized. Nowadays, life is so fast paced that we desire pragmatic outcomes before process. And that has taken away some enjoyments of life.
My moments frozen in time
|
Traffic in Bangkok. There's something oddly comforting about watching tons of cars going by and hearing street noises. |
Thinking what to wear out every day, because pictures are fleeting moments captured for eternity

Artistic Expression seems to be the pride and strength of Thais. I love their dedication to beauty. I definitely have an appetite for their flair. |
Behold. We can create life. Fishes hatch within 2 hours of the eggs being placed in water. Say what?!
|
First time riding in a Tuk Tuk. It was fun, and bumpy. The bumpiness, in fact, contributed to the fun. |
|
In the hotel gym I would never utilize. |
|
Loved the concept of this pizza joint. Delicious food served in style. First time trying a Tom Yum Goong Pizza, and it was scrumptious! |
|
My first 4D cinematic experience, at Paragon Cineplex. It was awesome. During a one minute of silence for the late King of Thailand, when a video montage of him was played, I had the shudders. The music was on point. Thai songs are really romantic sounding and lovely. |
Vie Hotel in Bangkok was the Best Hotel I've stayed in of all time! It was incredibly spacious, and living arrangements were well thought out. Cotton buds, quality hair conditioner, and other essentials were prepared for guests.

Asiatique The Riverfront - a hub for good food, entertainment, scenic views, and shopping at night |
|
In the heart of pretty lights and night activity. |
|
I attest that Bangkok is the only place that fuels so high a drive for shopping in me. It felt like my call of duty. |

Feeding time for huskies by True Love cafe staff. Half cried (for fear of dogs), and half melted at their cuteness. Nonetheless, I was determined to snap photos of them and with them. Multiple photos, in fact. Hence, I received my greatest souvenirs from this trip. @TrueLoveCafe #HuskyCafe |

Hello, Corgi! This creature was so cute, yet terrifying, I only gazed at it from afar, beyond the safety barrier of a glass door. @LittleZooCafe |

At 'After You' cafe. Pretentious plating, right here. That said, I can understand the hype about this dessert cafe. Ice Cream on fluffy toast tasted decent.

Holidays and quiet time away seem to connect me to the fabric of existence more than any motivational talks, time with large groups of people, or daily routine ever could. It is the removal of myself from the environments in which I perceive myself to possess a certain role, that allows me to find my heart's desires and its answers. <3 Therefore, I am extremely thankful for these quiet spaces.
Till our next encounter,
Meng Yee
